A Roman phalera, 3rd–4th century AD, in a natural turquoise and silver necklace.
An evocative and finely preserved Roman military decoration, this phalera — circa 200 - 350 AD — forms the centrepiece of a statement pendant necklace. Once awarded for distinguished acts of valour, the hexagonal medal may have been worn by a Standard Bearer — a role of exceptional peril and honour within the Roman legion.
The surface bears a delicate relief of laurel leaves and berries, symbols of triumph since antiquity. The original gilding, worn by the passage of time to create a beautiful gold and silver contrast, indicates the unusually high distinction of the award.
A unisex design, Triumph carries a legacy of courage and endurance — the quiet dignity of one who stood, unswerving, in the face of fear.
