Touching the invisible

As far back as we find artefacts, we find ancient jewellery.  These fragments of the past, buried beneath our feet like tiny fossils, capture something remarkable.

The things hidden within us that we needed to express the most, we gave physical form to and wore as adornments.  Jewellery was the visible part of the human soul.  The most expressive art in ancient history was worn on the body and externalized our humanity.  A remarkable story lives within this fragile heritage.

Kapistree is a jewellery house that conserves the most compelling signifiers and wearable art from the past 5,000 years.  This means restoring the vitality of these objects by appreciating and wearing them.  In a collaboration between artists that bridges thousands of years, designer and artist Dr Natalie Williams brings every ancient piece back to life.

She creates modern, wearable jewellery that incorporates the most exquisite artefacts from our collection.  Her designs respond to the message and aesthetic within each ancient piece, creating a dialogue across time that can include the wearer.

The questions raised in this process are deeply personal.  When we feel a response to ancient art, what are we connecting to? What is the significance of emotions and personal messages transmitted across vast periods of time? How real is the meaning held within objects?

By making these jewellery creations available to own, this exploration includes you. Participation is what defines the value of art.  Art collectors wearing original antiquities creates a continuum of use and frame the human experience as a collective event.
