This one-of-a-kind pendant features an exceptionally preserved Roman miniature sculpture, dating to the 2nd century AD. Carved in fine-grained stone, the piece portrays a classical comic theatre mask — a motif rich in cultural significance and subtle social commentary in the Roman world.
The mask, expressive and animated, was more than ornament. In Roman society, Comedy was both entertainment and veiled dissent — the sanctioned space where humour offered a mirror to power.
