Persian rock crystal seal, circa 300 - 600 AD. Set in a handmade 14ct gold pendant and chain.
This finely engraved dome-shaped seal, dating to the 4th–5th century AD, originates from the Sasanian Empire, where such objects served both as legal instruments and deeply personal expressions of identity. Fashioned from clear rock crystal—regarded as a representation of the celestial sphere—it is delicately incised with the image of an ibex leaping beneath a crescent moon and scattered stars.
The ibex, a favoured Sasanian motif, symbolised resilience and spiritual ascent: a solitary creature navigating difficult terrain, striving ever upwards. In this rendering, it evokes not merely survival but purposeful progress—qualities prized in a culture that saw life as an ongoing struggle between good and evil, where each individual’s actions carried moral weight.
Now set in a handmade gold necklace, it is a jewel that once reflected its owner's inner convictions and still speaks, across centuries, of aspiration and integrity.
