Mismatched gold earrings featuring Roman and Egyptian carved gemstones, circa 500 BC - 300 AD.

A unique pair of earrings uniting ancient artistry with contemporary design. Each features an intaglio gemstone, suspended like a droplet from a handmade 18-carat gold form.

One stone, a carnelian, depicts an eagle grasping a hare in its talons and once served as a personal symbol for the wearer.  The second gem, formerly in the RA collection, shows a serpent and a cat in confrontation.  In ancient Egypt the cat goddess was the protector of households, precisely for her ability to defeat venomous snakes.

The cat is exquisitely rendered with arched spine, raised hackles and a distinctly humanised expression - eyes alert, mouth curved in what might be read as a wry smile.

Both gems are masterworks of miniature carving, representing storytelling jewellery in its finest form.

L'histoire En Moi has become the eponymous piece of our jewellery art collection.
