Mesapotamian seal pendant, 4th millennium BC, set in an 18ct gold and silk kumihimo necklace.
Ebu is a statement necklace featuring an exceptional work of ancient art. The black seal stone, drilled at the back and originally worn in the body, is remarkably preserved across 5,000 years.
The seal, when imprinted in clay or wax, reverses the intaglio and creates a graceful image of an elephant. Though not native to Mesapotamian, wonderful elephant sculptures have been found at Jemdet Nasr from 3,000 BC.
