13th century copper stud pendant of a man-at-arms, featuring the lion rampant.  Set in a custom padlock mount, on a black spinel and silver bead necklace.

A stud pendant such as this would have been worn on a soldier's person or mounted on the frontlet band of his horse.  The copper alloy has developed a beautifully rich, dark patina with age, allowing the naïve medieval lion motif to rise from the shield.

A battle-worn pendant that carries the human experience of facing the day.  The lion rampant was a common symbol in 13th century heraldry.  The left-facing tail and "heater" shield may indicate Scottish royalty.
