The Secret

An 18ct gold and tsavorite necklace, featuring a rare 13th-century seal pendant with gilding.

This evocative piece centres on a medieval personal seal, delicately shaped from copper alloy and bearing a later 22ct gilt finish. The shield-shaped pendant is engraved with a stylised bird and a Latin inscription translating to The Secret Seal — a phrase whose quiet authority echoes across seven centuries.

Originally designed to be worn at the neck,  the elegant aesthetic allowed the seal to provide personal adornment. This artefact is unique and examples bearing a similar inscription are exceptionally rare. It is likely the piece  functioned alongside an identification seal but could also have been used alone to mark letters anonymously.  The secret inscription is hence both practical and poetic.

As a keeper of messages, the shield pendant is quietly resonant, poised to be a guardian of shared intimacy.
