I'm Jacob Norholt, co-founder of Kapistree with Welsh jewellery designer Natalie Williams. Our passion is jewellery without illusion - we deliver pieces that contain something truly precious, rather than labour to create a perception of value.
In jewellery that means making pieces that are beautiful, genuinely rare and - that most elusive trait for personal items - full of real meaning.
We live in a globalised world that erodes the concept of rarity. Nothing is unobtainable. Little is irreplicable. From art to diamonds, the things we traditionally treasured are now just conceptual in the division between artificial and real.
Against this backdrop the most precious objects are not gemstones or digital tokens. They are the things made by human hands that lie buried beneath our feet. Ancient artefacts will always be both rare and real. In particular ancient jewellery holds the greatest story ever told. It is the story of human survival - not by war and conquest but by our search for love, attachment and meaning.
Like Chinese porcelain or Renaissance sculpture, historic jewellery is a finite resource of something profoundly meaningful: the human spirit, materialised.
Each Kapistree product contains a unique and truly rare artefact and conserves it by presenting in as wearable, modern design couture. History is a trove of true stories, each full of meaning. Wear them to tell your story. Treasure something real.
